Luxury Home Community Receives OK

LITCHFIELD PARK - After a paperwork-related delay, the City Council has finally approved plans for a luxury-home development proposed by Toll Brothers.

The development in the Village at Litchfield Park will feature 340 homes at Camelback Road and Village Parkway. The development will be near the Wigwam Resort's Red Course and will cover 154 acres. The range of prices has not yet been determined, but they will be semicustom luxury homes.

Home lots in the development could range from 7,200 square feet to about half an acre.

The project was initially delayed by some potentially conflicting land uses. The Toll Brothers land is near a 4-acre city-owned lot and a smaller piece owned by Kabuto Arizona Properties, owner of the Wigwam Resort. Kabuto envisioned the land as a future golf-course maintenance yard.

But Mayor Woody Thomas said those issues were all resolved by the middle of last week.

The council originally convened to approve the project on Dec. 1, but because the project wasn't properly posted as an action item on the agenda, the council couldn't vote on it.

Council members opted to convene a special meeting on Friday night and quickly approved the plans.

"I think it took us less than two minutes," Thomas said.

The company has not yet determined when construction will begin on the project.
